Summer in our parks

This is a fantastic sight. Kensington Park is so busy with cricket, football, basketball, runners and cyclists as well as families having picnics or just playing on the equipment. Part of the Section 106 developer contribution from the Battle Hospital site was used to upgrade this park and it's been a huge success.

Reading and District Labour Party councillors fought hard to ensure the money was spent locally. The Battle Library extension is also being funded from this £1.6 million fund and will open in mid-September.

Road resurfacing in Battle!

Work is due to start on resurfacing several roads in Battle ward.  I know residents of Kensington Road will be pleased as they have contacted me asking for this work to be done.  It is part of a £368,000 project being carried out by Reading Borough Council.

Below is a list of the roads being resurfaced and the dates they are due to be done.  These dates may change due to weather conditions etc.

Kensington Road: Surfacing work starts on the Thursday, September 11, and is expected to take one day. Road-marking is due to be carried out approximately seven days later when ironworks will also be raised. The road will be closed during surfacing work with temporary parking restrictions in force.

Mason Street: Surfacing work will start on Saturday, September 13, and is expected to take one day. Road-marking is due to be carried out approximately seven days later when ironworks will also be raised. The road will be closed during surfacing work with temporary parking restrictions in force.

Edinburgh Road: Surfacing work will start on Saturday, September 13, and is expected to take one day. Road-marking is due to be carried out approximately seven days later when ironworks will also be raised. The road will be closed during surfacing work with temporary parking restrictions in force.

Wilton Road: Surfacing work will start on Sunday, September 14, and is expected to take one day. Road-marking is due to be carried out approximately seven days later when ironworks will also be raised. The surfacing work will be carried out under a road closure with temporary parking restrictions in force.

Road resurfacing for Battle!

Reading Borough Council have done an excellent job filling the hundreds of potholes all over Reading - at the last Traffic Management Sub-committee they reported having filled over 1200!

Sometimes this is not enough though and a whole road would benefit from resurfacing.  I know residents of Kensington Road and I have been asking for it to be resurfaced for a couple of year now and we have good news!!!

Below is a list of the roads in Battle due to be resurfaced this year - including Kensington Road!

Edinburgh Road
Kensington Road (from Oxford Road to Prince of Wales Avenue)
Wilton Road
Mason Street

We will also see phase one of the Oxford Road Corridor Study implemented in the summer which will include improved cycle facilitites, extended bus lanes and a rationalisation of the current road markings.

Gone Pothole Potty!

The recent wet and cold weather has played havoc with the road surfaces around Reading.  I first noticed a couple of deep potholes on Sherwood Street while on the school run.  They'd developed rather quickly but were now deep enough to be throwing out the big stones used under the tarmac.  I took a couple of pictures on my phone and reported them.

I popped the pictures on my Facebook page as I like to keep residents up-to-date with what I am doing and this resulted resulted in a flurry of further pothole reports which I have passed to the Council.  Roads I have reported potholes in include:

  • Sherwood Street
  • Chester Street
  • Prospect Street
  • Kensington Road
  • Lorne Street
  • Gun Street & St Mary's Butts
Some have already been filled and some have been placed on the repair schedule.  If there is a pothole in your street that need attention let me know because the Council need to know about them to fix them!
