Emergency overnight closure of Oxford Road

I have just received an email informing me of the emergency overnight closure of the Oxford Road.  Details as follows:

The urgent closure has been requested of Oxford Road, Reading, in a westbound direction only, between Bedford Road and Prospect Street. It has been requested by Thames Water to carry out urgent water mains repairs.  You may have noticed markings on the road and surface water, I know I have when walking home from work.

Due to the traffic impact and the shut off of the water mains, it's been agreed that the works will be carried out at night to reduce the impact on all users of this key location. 

The closures will be:

• 2200hrs on Wednesday 23^rd July until 0500hrs on Thursday 24^th July to carry out the repairs to two leaking water mains, located outside 167 and 203 Oxford Road. 
• They will return at 2200hrs on Thursday 24^th July until 0500hrs on Friday 25^th July to carry out a permanent reinstatement. 
• The road will be reopened outside of these times.
  
  

Gone Pothole Potty!

The recent wet and cold weather has played havoc with the road surfaces around Reading.  I first noticed a couple of deep potholes on Sherwood Street while on the school run.  They'd developed rather quickly but were now deep enough to be throwing out the big stones used under the tarmac.  I took a couple of pictures on my phone and reported them. 

I popped the pictures on my Facebook page as I like to keep residents up-to-date with what I am doing and this resulted resulted in a flurry of further pothole reports which I have passed to the Council.  Roads I have reported potholes in include:

• Sherwood Street
• Chester Street
• Prospect Street
• Kensington Road
• Lorne Street
• Gun Street & St Mary's Butts

Some have already been filled and some have been placed on the repair schedule.  If there is a pothole in your street that need attention let me know because the Council need to know about them to fix them!
